COONOOR Coonoor's the largest hill station in the Nilgiris. Situated on the eastern side of the southern extremely of the Doddabetta range, at an elevation of 1858 mts above sea level, this lucid back town is a sheer delight, not least for it's exquisite scenery. MAIN ATTRACTIONS

By Air: Nearest airport is at Bhuntar (10 kms away). Private airlines such as Jagson Airlines and Archana Airways have flights from Delhi. Raj Air, connects Mumbai to Kullu via Chandigarh. By Road: There are direct buses from Kulhira, Dharmsala, Shimla (235 kms), Chandigarh (270 kms) and Delhi. These bus routes continue north to Manali, 42 kms away. Places of interest in Kullu, include the historical Sultanpur Palace and the various temples that are spread around the town. The town is famous for its handicrafts and clothing items such as shawls and caps. State owned emporiums and private shops that dot the roads of Kullu. DHARMSALA
The town in itself is actually split into two parts. The lower section is called Dharmsala, while the higher settlement (3 kms away, 10 kms by road) is called Mcleodganj, 500 mts above the lower settlement. Dharmsala is also home to his holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual head of the Buddhists, who resides at Mcleodganj. Situated 514 kms from Delhi, 239 kms from Chandigarh, 235 kms from Shimla, 214 kms from Kullu, it is a popular tourist destination. By Air: Jagson Airlines flies to Delhi and Kullu from Kangra airport at Gaggal, 15 kms from Dharmsala. By Rail: Nearest narrow gauge railhead is 17 kms away and broad gauge railhead 90 kms away at Pathankot. |
